Here comes the sun preview

Here is my a preview of my video I have not yet finished it but this is as far as I can go before the Christmas Holidays, I will continue after the holidays.

Tuesday 7 December 2010

Try, try and try again.

After redoing all of my stop motion for the lyrics "Here comes the sun", I tried to add it into my video. This did not work as it was 3 frames per Sec, and I was not aloud to make in any faster, so what I managed to do after many trial and error was, I put it in another Adobe Premier Elements video file and, made it into its own little video then as an AVI file I could add it to my music video, and the stretch or shrink the time stretch on it. This was new to me as I have not done something like this before and has given me ideas for more footage in my video. It is a simple solution that could make my life a lot easier instead of putting in each picture separately as that took a long time and kept on going wrong as I could only put in a certain amount of images at a time and with some it did not let me pt them in at all, after deleting the faulty pictures and making it into another AVI  file, it has cleared a lot of complication up.

Let it snow, Let it snow, Let it snow!!!!!

The weather over the last few days has become worse. There is an obscure amount of snow, luckily as I planed my video so it was about the sun coming and I have already filmed parts when the snow was absent, so now that it is snowing I can film more for the beginning of my film. I have been filming back to front of what way it will go in my video. I has been interesting trying to achieve this and getting all the footage that i needed before the weather went bad, but now that the snow I can do much more videoing, for extra footage, as I have done much of my editing and only need a few more clips. And final finish my video, so I can concerntrate more on my Digi-pack and Advertisement in a magazine.

The only problem with it being winter, is how quickly the light fades, there is only a couple of hours where it is possible to film, which sadly I am in lessons for during school, so I can only really do filming on the weekend. It will add a certain level of stress to what I need to do but also gives me an understanding of times, and what needs to be done, because I have such short time I have to make sure I have everything done.

Cropping

I have been doing the stop motion part of my film and now i have been cropping the pictures, so you cannot see the tape I used to stick the picture to the table, so it would not move. As at the time I did not realise that this would effect the images and that the framing was wrong, something I will defiantly be checking the next time I do stop motion.

Tuesday 16 November 2010

Starting to edit.

Over the weekend I filmed most of my film, and now I am in the process of editing, I also will be re-filming bit's due unfocused camera and also some of the actors did not wear the costumes I had asked them to wear, and therefore they would not go with the genre of my video.
This is a picture of me filming on of the shots for my film.

This is some of the actors and also friends that decided to help by holding props
and the such when I was filming.

2.Font tests.

I will be running a font test seeing what the audience think about different fonts, weather they believe different font have different effects, weather they help the buyer choose wether he wants to buy the album or not. I also plan to use a font that will go with the signs I have made, so it may have to look kile hand writing but also could look very conventional the opposite to the hand writing so as to attract more of an audience.

Cast Shots.

Here is some of my cast the rest will be posted up at a later point.

Those who have their information on a sign, will be used more in the moving parts of the film, while those without information are extras that will be used in the pictures that will be used in things as the stop motion and such. These are only a few as many will be volunteers that will just smile for the camera as i take the picture.

1.Investigating musicians promotoin on themselves. (coursework ancillary)

For investigating  musicians how musicians promote themselves I have decided to investigate Sir Elton John, as he came out as a singer/songwriter around the same time as the beatles they came together in 1960 and started in 1964. He has released around 30 studio albums, has apeard in films and, created music for sountracks such as The Lion King, Friends and so on.
The last album he released was The Union on 19th of October 2010, before this he wasnt seen in the healines alot but on a more recent basis he has been appearing on shows and in newspapers and magasines.
He appeared on The One Show on the 29th, He was seen sayin that modern songwriters are "pretty awful2 on the 19th. He appeared on the Electric Proms on the 30th of Oct and there was also a documentary on his life on the 30th on the BBC.
All these appearences and quotes are reminder and selling him to the public, even the negative would play in a positive to all his older fans who is probably the basis of the people who buy he records.

Tuesday 2 November 2010

My Anamatic.

This is my anamatic. I am going to have to change things between the anamatic as there is many spaces where it could be filled with shots of everyday things and people going about there business. I plan to fill theses gaps where the shot from before is just carried on and also where I have put a shot of the sun rising I will fill them with different shots of wildlife, people and inanimate objects.

My props, My Cast, My Location

Over the holidays I have managed to creat the props I need, by painting and cutting out cardboard, I will at a later point add on. Also I am going to be collecting my cast within the next few days. I have also decided to possibally add the location of the beach as I think it will help portray what is bein said within my video that everything is going to be alright.

Tuesday 19 October 2010

My Animation

I am in the middle of creating my annimation, but have come across some complications, which will be sorted out on a later date and then the animation will be posted for everyone to see.

Cast

I will getting my cast together after the holidays so that I have a greater Idea of who would go with what.

Andrew Goodwins theory

Here is Andrew Goodwins theory and how it links with my music Video.

Friday 15 October 2010

Props!

I will be creating and gathering my props during the half term holidays. As there are many to make. And in the holidays I will have time to pay full attention on my props, and organising costume and make-up.
Also I will have time to take any nessecery pictures out of school for everyday things that we take for granted to add into my video.

Location, Location, Location!!!

I Have taken location shots I have planned for most of my video to be outside, as it is about winter/spring/summer and therefore I believe it is relevent and important for most of it to be shot outside I will probably take more location shots at a leter point but I think that these are the key locations for now.

The institution that might exhibit my Video......

I think that the institution that would exhibit my video would be sat MTV. It was launched in 1981 and had a huge impact as it was the only channel for music video's only. And it also introduced on air hosts know as VJ's (Video jockeys) instead of DJ's (Disc Jockeys). It is American network, but when it began it was very controversial, and still to this day exhibits interesting and popular video's not all of the stereo typical favorites of today such as the Saturdays or Lady Gaga, it also shows others such as Feist, Kings of Leon, Rufus Wainwright.

The institution that might produce my video...

For the producers of my music video I think would be Polydor, they have been the producers for groups and artisit like Duffy, the Kieser chiefs, Snow patrol, Kate nash.
Polydor is a British music label owned by Universal Music Group. i think that my video would be the sort that they would Produce and espetially as the song I'm using is a Beatles song.

Key elements for my Music Video

My checklist.
In my video to attract the correct audience I must include stop motion of lots of different people dressed in Mainly modern clothing but looking individual. Also colourful cut outs  of the lyrics and picture of the sun and also the lyrics writen on cardboard, with everyday things in the suroundings, like a red telephone box or a dog in a park, or kids playing in a play park, and genrally people being happy.

UK tribes-Indie Scenesters

All the four videos posted are video's of the sort of audience I am aiming I will at a later point upload a picture of my perfect audience member.

Uk Tribes- Townies

And another video from UK tribes-Indie

The perfect audience member.

I have been researching on UK tribes to see what "group" my perfect audience member would come from and, have come out with an interesting result of not just one group that it would be for but many, I came up with Hipsters, Indie Scenesters, Townies, and Just plain Indie. Because the video I am creating is supossed to be individual, popular and up there in the charts (if I were going to do that, which I'm not going to) but you get the jist. Probably My very perfect audience member would be a normal teenager, who is individual, who had friends and is happy. These are the video's on UK tribes of the groups...

Photos of me working.

Here is some pictures of me working, on getting the pictures for my story board and also for my animation.

In order to get a focused picture it was nessesary to have the camera so high, and having to stand on the chair so that I could see what I was taking a picture of.

Story boards

Here is my story board, and I am in the middle of creating an animatic video, with the soundtrack in the background.
The story behind my video is about going from winter to summer and the changes that happen along the way.
For my video I have 5 sort of sections that can be difined such as
1. cardboard signs, I am going to write the lyrics on the boards and have lots of different people hold them.
2. The change that happens with time I am going to use things like split screens with people who look simular but one is noticablly older, so it looks as if they have just grown older with time.
3. lip sink, when doing lipsink i am going to put a close up on just the persons lips so you cannot see  anything but.
4. Sunrise and possibally pictures of things that are around us everyday that we dont pay much attention to.
5.Stop motion, At the beginning to represent the returning of the sun I am going to film the sunrise and fast forward it in my video.

2nd Permission letter

Again could not sucsessfully upload onto my blog so here is a copy of it:

Dear Sir/Madame

I am writing for consent to use a Beatles song that I believe the late Michael Jackson, held the publishing rights over. My name is Jenny Brown, and I am a student as Gordonstoun School Scotland. I am in the middle of studying for my A-levels with the examining board of OCR. I am taking Media studies as one of my A-levels and as part of the course work we have to create a trailer or a music video, I myself decided to create a music video.  I am planning to use the song “Here comes the sun” by the Beatles if it is possible. And will create a video surrounding the track, this is of course for educational uses only and will not be made for any profit at all. If interested in what I am doing I have a blog where I regularly update on what I am doing and my plans for the video. The blog is: http://missbrowna-levelmedia.blogspot.com/

Yours sincerely
Jenny Brown

2nd analysis

For My second analysis, I will be analysing the song by Shakira called Waka Waka (This time for Africa).

Throughout the video, there is many different clips some from mid way angles, some from high angles and some from low, but it does not stay on one for long, so while watching the video you see many different things, such as Shakira dancing, Football games that were obviously from World Cups before and also had shots of the young people of Africa playing football. As the song is upbeat and joyfull the flickering between different clips of video goes with the song and is not confusing the viewer even though there is many different things in the video.
Throughout the video we see intervening clips of Shakira, in all of these clips she successfully manages to lip sink, except for maybe one small part, which was not clear if she was supposed to be just dancing or singing and dancing. The editing throughout was fast and neat, also some of the effects used fitted within the video, for example there was a grey wall but in front of it, it looked like there was a giant card say a post card and on the post card was a man who was moving playing football of showing his t-shirt saying "This time for Africa", what made it look good was that they looked like they were part of the card and was not standing in a room in front of a grey wall. In the video the clothes they wear a many different colours for example Shakira herself was wearing a black tassel skirt with and orange top and the colours of the Africa flag on some sort of hair Tye or scarf the people behind her were wearing many different colours, but all up-to-date modern clothes. Also there was the different colours of the men playing football and also the shots of the crowds.

Also throughout there is a storyline and that is of course the World Cup in Africa that has just happened, the reason we know this is because of the amount of football we see within the video, which makes it pretty clear, but also the release date as it was around the time of the World Cup.

The reason I chose this video was because I love the use of colour in it and the way the texture looks of the fabric and the background. Also it has fast editing and lots of different shots. I plan to use this in my video and much much more.

Audience research.

I have been doing audience research to find out what people like about music and the music videos they watch.

1. Why do you choose the music you do?
many answered they choose the music they do because they hear it from a friend or family.
Some said they would find the link on Youtube, by going through other links.
Some choose the music they do because of similarities with the artists, such as playing the same instrument, or coming from the same place.  Or simply listening to the music for enjoyment.

2.Do videos make a difference?
Most answered no to this question as they said they usually listen to the music before they look up the video.
Some also said that the video on occasion would help the viewer understand the story line better, if the song was complicated.

3. What attracts you to videos?
Some said if they were quirky and different, so they would keep the viewer paying more attention.
Some also said special effects can make a video much better for example "Love the way you lie" by Eminem feat. Rhianna. They said also if the storyline was exciting and clever this will make the music video more enjoyable.

4. What puts you off videos?
Many said when the video was plain with just a single person in it and not much of a story line. Also many said when the singer is out of sink with the actual song and therefore makes it obvious that they are not actually singing at that point in time.
Other's said if the music was not good enough of if they did not like the artist then they would not look up videos.

So from my research, I have found out that plain videos are not interesting, you should involve more than one person in the video, there should be an interesting storyline that goes along with the song. And you should try and find similarities with your target audience and this is what I plan to do.

Friday 1 October 2010

Kickstarts by example screen shots.

I have chosen these screen shots from the music video "Kickstarts" because by watching this video has helped give me ideas for what I plan to do with my music video. So from the top left to the right I will explain why I chose these nine screen shots.
The split screen of the feet, I believe that this is a key shot of the video as it is near the beginning and some what introduces the viewer to the storyline of hpw it is not just about one person but many, and through out the video it gets clearer. I am hoping to use a split screen like to show the many different people who are in my video, exept for the fact that they use the same people througout the video, I plan to try and not repeat using the same people.
The split screen of the man and hands, I think this is a key shot as it is showing to different clips of what is happening at that one point in time, him singing and the girl playing with her hands. I may try and put split screen shots like this when people are holding signs, so one is focusing on the person and the other is on the sign, or on the persons back or side.
I put the next to in because it is stop motion between pictures of people, which is what alot of my video I plan is going to consist of.
The next two we triple split screens and I put these in again because I will be using alot of split screens, but also because I can show three different things happening at once, and not only in split screens that are next to each other but also on toop of each other. The next picture I thought was key as is has two people saying the same thing but in a split screen so you can only see the top part of one and the bottom of the other, I thought that if I could incorporate something like this into my video it would make it more interesting.
The middle picture on the bottom row I thought was key as it shows who the focus very clearly is on, but in the video it goes from focused on him to focused on her and I was hoping to use this in mine so it could quickly change from one person with a sign to another within the sam picture.
And the last picture I put in because it is showing the fully body of a person, which even though I am planning to use many split screens and stop motion pictures, close up and the like I am still planning to have full body shots, I also plan to use simple background, like they do througout the whoel of the music video.

A change In songs!

After much thought, I have decided to change the song I am working with, I decided this as I thought "Imagine" was to slow for what I plan to do, and did not give me enough to work on. So I have decided to use the song "Here comes the sun" by the beatles. I am still planning to stay along the sames ideas as I had for "Imaginge", but also add on to the ideas I already have.
This means that I have to wright another permission letter to the Jackson estate as Micheal Jackson bought ownership over publishing the Beatles song.

Permission letter

Here is my permission letter to Yoko Ono, to get granted permission to use he late husbands song.

My mood Board.

This is my mood board, I have put on lots of words, as in my video there is going to be lots of signs with word on them. The words also have meaning like "peace" "love" "Heaven". I have also put on lots of faces in different background colours as I intend to have many different colour effects in it and also I will be using many different people in my video.

Analysing simular videos

This video is simular to the music video I am creating, In this the Cinematography is simple and is a mid shot, all the way through. there is no editing and it was done in one take. With the music playing and him showing the signs in the right order. The music goes with the filming as it is in sink and the song is diagetic with the film. The mise-en-scene is simple in the backgroung there is two men talking throughout and they do not move from that place, it seems to been on a working site as there is scafolding in the background. The clothes he is wearing are normal and plain so not to take away froom the signs.

Doing what is needed to be done!

I have now uploaded my productions logo, I like it due the simplicity yet also what is happening within the picture, the lights, the water and also how I have filled the empty space with my Production name.

The music track I have decided to use for my music video is "Imagine" by John Lennon. the Genre of the track is soft rock, soft rock is a combination of folk rock and singer-songwriter pop. The themes it generally focus' on is love, relationships, peace ... it was brought into the mainstream in the 70's and 80's much was done by the Beatles as they did both rock and pop and on occasion combined the two.
I intend to show the theme of peace and love in my music video.

My Blog

My name is Jenny Brown and this is my A-level media blog page.
For my coursework I am doing a music video, and I am working by myself I decided to do this so that I have complete control over what I am creating. My Production name is "Curtain call productions" and a image of my banner/logo will be posted at a later point. In the mean time I will be searching for insperations for my video.
