Props!

I will be creating and gathering my props during the half term holidays. As there are many to make. And in the holidays I will have time to pay full attention on my props, and organising costume and make-up.
Also I will have time to take any nessecery pictures out of school for everyday things that we take for granted to add into my video.

Location, Location, Location!!!

I Have taken location shots I have planned for most of my video to be outside, as it is about winter/spring/summer and therefore I believe it is relevent and important for most of it to be shot outside I will probably take more location shots at a leter point but I think that these are the key locations for now.

The institution that might exhibit my Video......

I think that the institution that would exhibit my video would be sat MTV. It was launched in 1981 and had a huge impact as it was the only channel for music video's only. And it also introduced on air hosts know as VJ's (Video jockeys) instead of DJ's (Disc Jockeys). It is American network, but when it began it was very controversial, and still to this day exhibits interesting and popular video's not all of the stereo typical favorites of today such as the Saturdays or Lady Gaga, it also shows others such as Feist, Kings of Leon, Rufus Wainwright.

The institution that might produce my video...

For the producers of my music video I think would be Polydor, they have been the producers for groups and artisit like Duffy, the Kieser chiefs, Snow patrol, Kate nash.
Polydor is a British music label owned by Universal Music Group. i think that my video would be the sort that they would Produce and espetially as the song I'm using is a Beatles song.

Key elements for my Music Video

My checklist.
In my video to attract the correct audience I must include stop motion of lots of different people dressed in Mainly modern clothing but looking individual. Also colourful cut outs  of the lyrics and picture of the sun and also the lyrics writen on cardboard, with everyday things in the suroundings, like a red telephone box or a dog in a park, or kids playing in a play park, and genrally people being happy.

UK tribes-Indie Scenesters

All the four videos posted are video's of the sort of audience I am aiming I will at a later point upload a picture of my perfect audience member.

Uk Tribes- Townies

And another video from UK tribes-Indie

The perfect audience member.

I have been researching on UK tribes to see what "group" my perfect audience member would come from and, have come out with an interesting result of not just one group that it would be for but many, I came up with Hipsters, Indie Scenesters, Townies, and Just plain Indie. Because the video I am creating is supossed to be individual, popular and up there in the charts (if I were going to do that, which I'm not going to) but you get the jist. Probably My very perfect audience member would be a normal teenager, who is individual, who had friends and is happy. These are the video's on UK tribes of the groups...

Photos of me working.

Here is some pictures of me working, on getting the pictures for my story board and also for my animation.

In order to get a focused picture it was nessesary to have the camera so high, and having to stand on the chair so that I could see what I was taking a picture of.

Story boards

Here is my story board, and I am in the middle of creating an animatic video, with the soundtrack in the background.
The story behind my video is about going from winter to summer and the changes that happen along the way.
For my video I have 5 sort of sections that can be difined such as
1. cardboard signs, I am going to write the lyrics on the boards and have lots of different people hold them.
2. The change that happens with time I am going to use things like split screens with people who look simular but one is noticablly older, so it looks as if they have just grown older with time.
3. lip sink, when doing lipsink i am going to put a close up on just the persons lips so you cannot see  anything but.
4. Sunrise and possibally pictures of things that are around us everyday that we dont pay much attention to.
5.Stop motion, At the beginning to represent the returning of the sun I am going to film the sunrise and fast forward it in my video.

2nd Permission letter

Again could not sucsessfully upload onto my blog so here is a copy of it:

Dear Sir/Madame

I am writing for consent to use a Beatles song that I believe the late Michael Jackson, held the publishing rights over. My name is Jenny Brown, and I am a student as Gordonstoun School Scotland. I am in the middle of studying for my A-levels with the examining board of OCR. I am taking Media studies as one of my A-levels and as part of the course work we have to create a trailer or a music video, I myself decided to create a music video.  I am planning to use the song “Here comes the sun” by the Beatles if it is possible. And will create a video surrounding the track, this is of course for educational uses only and will not be made for any profit at all. If interested in what I am doing I have a blog where I regularly update on what I am doing and my plans for the video. The blog is: http://missbrowna-levelmedia.blogspot.com/

Yours sincerely
Jenny Brown

2nd analysis

For My second analysis, I will be analysing the song by Shakira called Waka Waka (This time for Africa).

Throughout the video, there is many different clips some from mid way angles, some from high angles and some from low, but it does not stay on one for long, so while watching the video you see many different things, such as Shakira dancing, Football games that were obviously from World Cups before and also had shots of the young people of Africa playing football. As the song is upbeat and joyfull the flickering between different clips of video goes with the song and is not confusing the viewer even though there is many different things in the video.
Throughout the video we see intervening clips of Shakira, in all of these clips she successfully manages to lip sink, except for maybe one small part, which was not clear if she was supposed to be just dancing or singing and dancing. The editing throughout was fast and neat, also some of the effects used fitted within the video, for example there was a grey wall but in front of it, it looked like there was a giant card say a post card and on the post card was a man who was moving playing football of showing his t-shirt saying "This time for Africa", what made it look good was that they looked like they were part of the card and was not standing in a room in front of a grey wall. In the video the clothes they wear a many different colours for example Shakira herself was wearing a black tassel skirt with and orange top and the colours of the Africa flag on some sort of hair Tye or scarf the people behind her were wearing many different colours, but all up-to-date modern clothes. Also there was the different colours of the men playing football and also the shots of the crowds.

Also throughout there is a storyline and that is of course the World Cup in Africa that has just happened, the reason we know this is because of the amount of football we see within the video, which makes it pretty clear, but also the release date as it was around the time of the World Cup.

The reason I chose this video was because I love the use of colour in it and the way the texture looks of the fabric and the background. Also it has fast editing and lots of different shots. I plan to use this in my video and much much more.

Audience research.

I have been doing audience research to find out what people like about music and the music videos they watch.

1. Why do you choose the music you do?
many answered they choose the music they do because they hear it from a friend or family.
Some said they would find the link on Youtube, by going through other links.
Some choose the music they do because of similarities with the artists, such as playing the same instrument, or coming from the same place.  Or simply listening to the music for enjoyment.

2.Do videos make a difference?
Most answered no to this question as they said they usually listen to the music before they look up the video.
Some also said that the video on occasion would help the viewer understand the story line better, if the song was complicated.

3. What attracts you to videos?
Some said if they were quirky and different, so they would keep the viewer paying more attention.
Some also said special effects can make a video much better for example "Love the way you lie" by Eminem feat. Rhianna. They said also if the storyline was exciting and clever this will make the music video more enjoyable.

4. What puts you off videos?
Many said when the video was plain with just a single person in it and not much of a story line. Also many said when the singer is out of sink with the actual song and therefore makes it obvious that they are not actually singing at that point in time.
Other's said if the music was not good enough of if they did not like the artist then they would not look up videos.

So from my research, I have found out that plain videos are not interesting, you should involve more than one person in the video, there should be an interesting storyline that goes along with the song. And you should try and find similarities with your target audience and this is what I plan to do.

Kickstarts by example screen shots.

I have chosen these screen shots from the music video "Kickstarts" because by watching this video has helped give me ideas for what I plan to do with my music video. So from the top left to the right I will explain why I chose these nine screen shots.
The split screen of the feet, I believe that this is a key shot of the video as it is near the beginning and some what introduces the viewer to the storyline of hpw it is not just about one person but many, and through out the video it gets clearer. I am hoping to use a split screen like to show the many different people who are in my video, exept for the fact that they use the same people througout the video, I plan to try and not repeat using the same people.
The split screen of the man and hands, I think this is a key shot as it is showing to different clips of what is happening at that one point in time, him singing and the girl playing with her hands. I may try and put split screen shots like this when people are holding signs, so one is focusing on the person and the other is on the sign, or on the persons back or side.
I put the next to in because it is stop motion between pictures of people, which is what alot of my video I plan is going to consist of.
The next two we triple split screens and I put these in again because I will be using alot of split screens, but also because I can show three different things happening at once, and not only in split screens that are next to each other but also on toop of each other. The next picture I thought was key as is has two people saying the same thing but in a split screen so you can only see the top part of one and the bottom of the other, I thought that if I could incorporate something like this into my video it would make it more interesting.
The middle picture on the bottom row I thought was key as it shows who the focus very clearly is on, but in the video it goes from focused on him to focused on her and I was hoping to use this in mine so it could quickly change from one person with a sign to another within the sam picture.
And the last picture I put in because it is showing the fully body of a person, which even though I am planning to use many split screens and stop motion pictures, close up and the like I am still planning to have full body shots, I also plan to use simple background, like they do througout the whoel of the music video.

A change In songs!

After much thought, I have decided to change the song I am working with, I decided this as I thought "Imagine" was to slow for what I plan to do, and did not give me enough to work on. So I have decided to use the song "Here comes the sun" by the beatles. I am still planning to stay along the sames ideas as I had for "Imaginge", but also add on to the ideas I already have.
This means that I have to wright another permission letter to the Jackson estate as Micheal Jackson bought ownership over publishing the Beatles song.
